Bringing Renewable Energy to King County

In the shadow of Mt. Rainier lies one of the largest landfill gas resources in the country: the 920 acre Cedar Hills Landfill in King County, Washington. Its immense size and close proximity to a major interstate natural gas pipeline made this the ideal opportunity for BEW to invest in the largest landfill gas–to–pipeline quality gas facility in the nation. As part of the plant design, Bio Energy Washington installed a complex system of gas processing equipment, as well as an onsite electricity generation plant capable of powering the entire process with minimal dependence on the local electricity grid. Since opening for business in May 2009, the BEW team at the Cedar Hills Facility has focused its efforts on operating the facility safely and efficiently while maintaining excellent relations with their landfill host and many neighbors in the surrounding communities.
